Pasture Raised - Free Range
- What is the difference? -
Our philosophy of growing chickens longer and in their natural environment applies to both the pasture raised and the free range chickens. We want our chickens to have the opportunity to express nautral behaviour like peck. scratch, forage and dusth bathe. Our pasture raised chickens are raised for 55 days and our free range roasters for 45 days. Most chicken purchased in the grocery store is grown for 32-35 days.
Pasture Raised
The pasture-raised chickens live their whole lives outside. That is why we only grow them in the warmer, drier months. They have shelters to protect them from the sun and the rain. We move the shelters frequently to fresh pasture. These chickens grow bigger because they are raised longer.
Free Range
Free-range chickens have the option to go outside on warmer days or stay inside on cooler days. Inside the chickens have natural light through large windows and extra room to move about.

How to Purchase
- Fresh or Frozen -
From Grocers and Farm Markets
Fresh free-range chickens are available at some grocers and farm markets throughout the lower mainland every 4th weekend of the month. Check the website and or get on our email notification list for exact delivery dates.
From K & M Farm Store
Preordering is advised for fresh purchases as supplies may be limited. Pickup at the farm for frozen products is by appointment. Email to arrange a convenient day and time.
•Fresh pasture-raised chickens: are available 3 times a year
•Fresh free-range chickens: Available every 4th weekend throughout the year.
•Turkeys: available fresh just before Thanksgiving and fresh (previously frozen) at Christmas
•Frozen chicken and turkeys: available year-round.
